Our Approach to Psychiatric Medication Management

At SHIELD Psychiatry, medication is never treated as a quick fix. Care begins with diagnostic clarity, shared decision-making, conservative dosing, and close monitoring over time.

When We Consider Medication

Medication may be considered when symptoms are interfering with school, home life, relationships, sleep, emotional regulation, or daily functioning.

  • Moderate to severe ADHD, anxiety, depression, mood symptoms, or sleep dysregulation
  • Functional impairment despite behavioral, school, family, or therapy-based supports
  • Co-occurring concerns after careful assessment, rule-outs, and diagnostic formulation

Safety & Monitoring

Medication management includes careful education, measurable treatment targets, and ongoing safety monitoring.

  • Informed consent with review of benefits, risks, alternatives, and possible side effects
  • Conservative titration with measurable goals for attention, mood, sleep, behavior, or school function
  • Vital signs, growth, sleep, appetite, mood, and side effects reviewed as clinically indicated
  • ECG, labs, pediatrician coordination, or specialty collaboration when clinically appropriate

What Families Can Expect

Families receive clear guidance, practical next steps, and collaborative care that supports the child’s functioning across home, school, and daily life.

  • Clear treatment targets and a written plan after visits
  • Rating scales and symptom tracking when appropriate
  • Side-effect review and medication adjustments based on response
  • Coordination with pediatricians, therapists, or schools with consent
  • School letters or accommodation support when clinically indicated

Conditions Commonly Supported

  • ADHD medication management, including stimulant and non-stimulant options
  • Anxiety and depression medication management
  • Mood symptoms, irritability, emotional dysregulation, and sleep concerns
  • Autism-related psychiatric needs, including co-occurring ADHD, anxiety, mood, or sleep symptoms

What Medication Management Includes

Thoughtful prescribing for children, teens, and young adults — with education, monitoring, and collaborative care at every step.

Follow-up visit $179 · 30 min Initial comprehensive evaluation required · $349

At SHIELD Psychiatry, medication is one part of a comprehensive treatment plan. Care begins with diagnostic clarity, review of symptoms, developmental history, family priorities, safety considerations, and functional goals.

When medication is appropriate, we select options based on the child or young adult’s symptoms, medical history, co-occurring conditions, response patterns, family preferences, and daily life demands.

Each visit includes education for families and patients — how the medication works, expected benefits, possible side effects, what to monitor, and when to reach out.

We track response over time, adjust the dose or medication when needed, and coordinate with schools, pediatricians, therapists, or college support teams when clinically appropriate and authorized.

For ADHD care, SHIELD Psychiatry may integrate objective measures such as QbCheck™, rating scales, school feedback, and functional goal tracking to support medication titration and treatment monitoring.
