Concierge Telepsychiatry for Children, Teens & Young Adults (Ages 5–25)
Your child deserves more than 15 minutes.
Your Child Deserves More Than 15 Minutes
In insurance-based psychiatry, the average medication check lasts 12–15 minutes. Providers carry panels of 1,500+ patients. Follow-up waits stretch 4–6 weeks — even after a medication change.
At SHIELD Psychiatry, we do things differently.
We limit our patient panel so your child gets the time, attention, and access they deserve. Initial evaluations run 60–90 minutes. Follow-ups are 20–30 minutes. And between visits, member families can message their provider directly — because mental health doesn't wait for the next appointment.
How Our Pricing Works
SHIELD Psychiatry is a concierge, self-pay practice. We do not bill insurance — and here’s why that’s actually better for your child:
- Longer appointments (2–3× the industry average)
- Smaller patient panel = faster access and true continuity
- No prior authorization delays for medications
- A provider who knows your child’s name, history, and story
For less than $2.63 a day, membership families get a dedicated psychiatric provider who responds to messages, adjusts treatment in real time, and never rushes through an appointment.
Optional Membership — $79/Month
Membership is designed for families who want more than appointments. It’s about access, peace of mind, and knowing your child’s provider is just a message away.
- Unlimited secure messaging with your provider (Mon–Fri, 9 AM–5 PM ET, responses within 1 business day)
- Quick 5–10 minute check-ins when concerns arise between visits
- Prescription refills between visits — included
- Prior authorizations for medications — included
- School, camp, and accommodation forms — included
- One free QbCheck retest per year ($350 value)
- Member pricing on all visits and evaluations
Membership is optional. Every family can receive excellent care at SHIELD without it. But most families choose membership after their first visit because they experience the difference that access makes.
Not sure yet? Start without membership — you can add it anytime within your first 60 days, and we’ll apply member pricing retroactively to your first month.

Here’s what a typical year of ADHD care looks like at SHIELD, with and without membership:
| What You Get | Without Membership | With Membership ($79/mo) |
|---|---|---|
| Comprehensive Eval + QbCheck | $750 | $750 |
| QbCheck Retest (annual) | $350 | $0 (included) |

| School/Camp Forms | $50/each | Included |
| Estimated Annual Total | $2,125–$2,575+ | $948 membership + $1,450 visits ≈ $2,398 |
The bottom line: membership may cost about the same on paper — but it includes access, responsiveness, and peace of mind that simply cannot be purchased à la carte. The real value is in what happens between visits.
“Why Don’t You Accept Insurance?”
It’s a fair question — and the answer is simple: the insurance model doesn’t allow us to practice the way your child deserves.
Insurance reimburses psychiatric providers $130–$230 per visit and requires patient panels of 1,500 or more. That’s how you end up with 12-minute appointments and 6-week waits.
Over 60% of psychiatrists in the U.S. have already stopped accepting insurance for this reason — mental health care is systematically undervalued by the reimbursement system.
- Spend 2–3× longer with your child at every visit
- Keep a small, focused patient panel
- Respond to your messages the same day — not the next month
- Make medication adjustments in days, not weeks
We provide superbills after every visit so you can submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement. Many families recover 40–70% of visit costs this way.
What Parents Should Know About Cost
We understand that healthcare costs are a real consideration — especially for families already navigating the challenges of a child’s mental health.
- The average ER visit for a pediatric psychiatric crisis costs $2,000–$5,000. One prevented crisis pays for an entire year of membership.
- Children who wait 6–8 weeks for a follow-up after a medication change are at higher risk for side effects, school disruption, and emergency visits. Membership means same-week adjustments.
- The average insurance copay for a specialist visit is $40–$75 — but those visits are 10–15 minutes with a provider managing 1,500+ patients.
- At SHIELD, your child gets 20–30 minutes with a provider who already knows their story.
Stable patients on maintenance care may only need visits every 3 months — bringing the ongoing cost to approximately $67/month without membership, or $138/month with membership and all its included benefits.
